THE LORD IS GOOD

507th Meditation

“The Lord is (…) good in all his deeds” (Ps 114:13b); the Lord is the Good One par excellence.

To the one who approached Jesus and called Him “Good Teacher,” Jesus replied: “No one is good but God alone” (Mk 10:18).

From the Heart of God flows this goodness, which is His essence and which He wants to make known to all people. Read More

Gratitude

Lk 17:11-19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.  And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”  When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.  Then said Jesus, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?  Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 1And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

The school of humility

Lk 17:7-10

At that time the Lord said, ‘Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from the fields, “Come and have your meal at once”? Would he not be more likely to say, “Get my supper ready; fasten your belt and wait on me while I eat and drink. You yourself can eat and drink afterwards”? Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told? So with you: when you have done all you have been told to do, say, “We are useless servants: we have done no more than our duty”. THE TRUE GOLD

506th Meditation

On our way of following Christ, we have to deal with our weaknesses again and again. Often we do not succeed in overcoming them as we would like to and, despite our sincere efforts, they catch up with us. Sometimes we fall into sin, and then feelings of despair may even arise because we are simply not able to resist the temptations. Read More

THERE ARE NOT MANY WHO WILL LEND ME AN EAR

505th Meditation

“It is a joy for me to speak with you. There are not many who will lend me an ear and with whom I can dialogue” (Interior Word).

Not seldom do we look for someone to talk to, someone who knows how to listen to us and who is interested in our concerns… How happy we are when we find such a person! This person can easily become our friend and confidant. This longing of ours is especially fulfilled when we turn to our Heavenly Father, who we can be sure understands us and always has time to listen to us. Then the Father becomes our friend and confidant. Read More

Sin and forgiveness

Lk 17:1-6

‘He said to his disciples, ‘Causes of falling are sure to come, but alas for the one through whom they occur! It would be better for such a person to be thrown into the sea with a millstone round the neck than to be the downfall of a single one of these little ones. Keep watch on yourselves! ‘If your brother does something wrong, rebuke him and, if he is sorry, forgive him. And if he wrongs you seven times a day and seven times comes back to you and says, “I am sorry,” you must forgive him.’ The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith. ‘The Lord replied, ‘If you had faith like a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it would obey you. Wisdom

Wis 6:12-16

Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her. He who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for he will find her sitting at his gates. To fix one’s thought on her is perfect understanding, and he who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care, because she goes about seeking those worthy of her, and she graciously appears to them in their paths, and meets them in every thought.

Detachment from money

Lk 16:9-15

‘And so I tell you this: use money, tainted as it is, to win you friends, and thus make sure that when it fails you, they will welcome you into eternal dwellings. Anyone who is trustworthy in little things is trustworthy in great; anyone who is dishonest in little things is dishonest in great. If then you are not trustworthy with money, that tainted thing, who will trust you with genuine riches? And if you are not trustworthy with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own? ‘No servant can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or be attached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.’

ALL WHO CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED

“All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved”, Holy Scripture affirms (Rom 10:13).

Perhaps we do not always immediately understand that it is so easy to be saved… Indeed, we are also familiar with those other statements in Scripture about the narrow gate that leads to eternal life and the wide and spacious road that leads to destruction, and the Lord warns that “many take it” (Mt 7:13).
