“THE TRUTH HAS THE POWER TO ENDURE”

“The truth has the power to endure.” (Inner Word)

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” (Mt 24:35)

What a comforting word from our Lord! The truth remains unchanging and is a sure anchor in a time when it is not widely loved, or when people ask, like Pontius Pilate: “What is truth?” (John 18:38).

It is also a time when people seek out teachings to align with their own inclinations. St. Paul puts it this way: “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

No matter how great the confusion may be, and alas, it has even spread within the Church, the truth will remain. Amid all the confusion, it will be living water for all those who thirst for truth. But the truth must also be proclaimed and made present as a guide for people of good will who have allowed themselves to be ensnared by half-truths and have followed errors. Perhaps they can still be reached by it, for the truth has the power to endure.

The further the world strays from the truth, the more chaotic it becomes. When the holy commandments are no longer a binding guide for people, they lose their footing. If they refuse to accept the gift of salvation and forgiveness in Christ, they remain trapped in sin and error.

What, then, remains? The truth remains!

What remains is our Father’s offer of love, inviting us to return home to Him, and the prayers of the faithful for those who have not yet received God’s grace into their lives.
