“He shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.” (Zech. 9:10).
True peace has come to us in the Son of the Most High, who calls all nations to this peace. Our heavenly Father emphasizes that peace comes when people recognize, worship, and love Him. Inner and outer peace can arise only when we live according to God’s instructions.
Where else could it come from?
There may be ceasefires, that is, temporary pauses in armed conflicts, but we see that the world does not find rest. The crucial element missing is the peace that comes from God and transforms our hearts, becoming a stream of peace for this world.
Above all, we need inner peace because every sin is discord that brings death. “You are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness.” (Rom. 6:16)
Thus, Jesus—the true Prince of Peace—laid the foundation for true peace by breaking the power of sin and offering us reconciliation with God through Him. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23)
As Christians, this shows us the way in which we—as true children of the divine Father—can serve peace. It is our duty to proclaim this peace in the name of the Lord through our words and testimony. In doing so, we must remember that true peace can come only through God and His way of reconciliation, and we must not be deceived into thinking that such peace could arise without this prerequisite.
