“THE MERCIFUL GOD”

“God delights in mercy.” (Micah 7:18)

Our Father is not merely merciful because, otherwise, none of us humans would achieve our goal and would therefore need God’s help, as if it were a mere necessity.

Certainly, we would be lost without God’s grace! Keeping this in mind helps us guard against any overestimation of ourselves. But from God’s perspective, it is different, as the words of the prophet Micah testify: Our Father delights in showing us mercy. It is His deepest desire and His joy to do all the good imaginable for us.

In Madre Eugenia’s Little Book of the Father, this joy of God in doing good for us is expressed as follows: “It is not enough for Me to have shown you My love; I also want to open up My Heart to you, whence a refreshing spring will issue and where all men will quench their thirst. They will then experience joys they have never known until now through being so weighed down by the exaggerated fear they had of Me, their tender Father.”

Our Father wants us to understand who He truly is and to realize how deeply His heart is turned toward us. We are to recognize how carefully God is always intent on giving us everything for time and eternity, so that we may be united with Him forever. It is very important to our Father that we understand this, for in this way our response of love becomes ever deeper and more radiant.

Our Father has also repeatedly demonstrated this infinite love to His people Israel. The prophet Micah continues: “He will again have compassion upon us, he will tread our iniquities under foot. Thou wilt cast all our sins.” (Micah 7:19)

To indelibly reveal His love to us humans throughout the world, our Father sent His beloved Son, so that we might find salvation and redemption in Him.

“God delights in mercy.”
