“Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” (Ps 121:4)
That is true, dear Father: You are always watching over us. This watchfulness springs from Your love for us and is free from any mistrust, which we humans, unfortunately, all too often harbor within ourselves.
It is a different kind of watchfulness, one that is almost unimaginable to us limited human beings. Yet we trust Your word and know we are safe in Your gaze. If we truly take this word deep into our hearts, then it should transform our lives. We could also be freed from the tension that so often restricts our lives. And if we also seek Your ways, what harm could come to us?
In fact, each day then becomes a wonderful opportunity to embrace without fear and to navigate in You. Yet we forget this so often that our soul sometimes even feels stuck to the ground. All disordered sadness must also depart from us, for You are here and have not forgotten us just because we have lost sight of You.
Also, dear Father—and this is not always easy for us to understand—You do not overlook the calamity and misery on this earth, the wars and the many injustices. You will guide everything in accordance with Your wisdom. Since we cannot foresee this beforehand, we take steps of faith and trust.
And yet it is also an invitation to pay close attention to our lives, so that we may be accountable for them before You and before others, and so that they may reflect Your love.
Perhaps, dear Father, we will awaken more deeply from our slumber, and Your love will teach us to watch over those, in Your Spirit, whom You have entrusted to us!
