“I want to show you how I come to you through my Holy Spirit” (Message of the Father to Sr. Eugenia Ravasio).
We meditated on how the gift of knowledge helps us to center our whole heart on the Heavenly Father, so that our natural attachment to created things does not become an obstacle to our union with God.
Even though our faith is great, we still do not know our Father from the inside; that is, we do not grasp His divine reality because our human understanding is incapable of comprehending it and cannot penetrate the divine mystery.
Nevertheless, our Father wants to make Himself known to us. That is why He has poured into our souls the gift of understanding, which begins to enlighten us with an “inner light” through the Holy Spirit. In this light we begin to penetrate the mystery of God, because, as St. Paul says, “the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God” (1 Cor 2:10).
The gift of understanding works with greater intensity the more we unite ourselves to the Holy Spirit in perfect love. With its help, we begin to understand the Lord better and better, to comprehend His works, Sacred Scripture, the meaning of the evangelical counsels, the wisdom of His providence, and many other things that the Lord wants to show us, because “We have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God” (1 Cor 2:12).
With the simple contemplative gaze that the spirit of understanding bestows on us, we learn to understand God from the inside, as it were.
