“The best work we can do in the world is to lead lost souls onto the right path, toward the path of virtue, toward God” (St. John Bosco).
That is precisely what Don Bosco did; he devoted himself with great zeal to young souls, especially those living on the margins of society. He led many of them to God. In doing so, he carried out the work of our Heavenly Father, who deeply longs for people to return to Him and to their true home.
In the Message to Sister Eugenia Ravasio, God the Father urges us to use every possible means to lead people to Him so they may recognize that He is the kindest of fathers. In listing the purposes of His coming, our Father points out first of all:
“I am coming to banish the excessive fear that My creatures have of Me, and to show them that My joy lies in being known and loved by My children, that is, by all mankind, present and future.”
Therefore, we bring joy to God and to all of Heaven when we help people turn to Him or deepen their faith, thereby becoming even more fruitful for His Kingdom.
St. John Bosco treated young people with great love, and that is how he won their trust. If our Father’s love dwells and acts in our hearts, everyone we meet will come to know it. Even if our lives are not marked by significant external activities, we can pray and offer sacrifices for the return of lost souls.
