“SEEING THROUGH GOD’S EYES”

“My son, give me your heart, and your eyes will follow my ways” (Antiphon for the Feast of the Sacred Heart).

When we accept this invitation from our Father, we literally become “clairvoyant,” because we will then be better able to recognize and follow His ways. If our heart belongs to God, we enter into that intimacy in which our Father can share with us His desires and the great concerns of His heart. Certainly, we are generally aware that our Father calls His lost sons and daughters home. Everything we do to serve this desire pleases God.

However, there are also specific paths along which He personally guides us to fulfill His will and introduce us to our mission. He opens our eyes to the beauty of each of His holy commandments and teaches us that they all stem from His loving will. We learn to see the commandments through His eyes and discover the source from which they spring. Thus, even here on earth, we glimpse a little of the mystery of divine love. This becomes a burning longing within us to understand more deeply the goodness and beauty of all His instructions and to allow ourselves to be guided by our Father’s wisdom, so that we may honor, recognize, and love Him even more. A greater intimacy and familiarity in love begins because our hearts belong to Him.

Especially on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, when we praise our Savior’s love for us, we hear this tender invitation to give our hearts to God. When we do, God has a home on earth, and we are given eyes to see and ears to hear. Thus, the paths that God walks with us begin to lie more and more clearly before us, and we follow them with joy.
