NOTE: Today, as part of the “Father’s Reflections,” I am beginning a short series closely connected to a musical work by Harpa Dei.
Harpa Dei seeks to bring the words of our Lord Jesus to people through Gregorian chants. To this end, they will publish short videos on their channels. I am very happy to support this endeavor with my own brief meditations as part of the “Father’s Reflections,” using the words they have chosen. Since Jesus said, “He who has seen me has seen the Father!” (John 14:9b) and “I speak of what I have seen with my Father” (John 8:38), we also hear the voice of our Father in His words.
“I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life,” says the Lord (John 8:12).
Light, light, light! How important light is for all of creation! It grants the unfolding of life. If all of creation is already waiting for light, how much more so our soul! It longs for the light of God to illuminate it.
Through the image of light, Jesus has made very clear to us what true life means. And in Him, in our Lord Jesus, the light comes to us!
“The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world” (John 1:9). It grants us the divine life for which we are destined. “In him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4). When we listen to Jesus and follow Him, we have a sure path through time into eternity and receive the true light of life.
Jesus is the gift of our Heavenly Father. In unimaginable love, God has come to us as light and life in His Son. In Jesus, we can learn to understand our beloved Father. He reveals Himself to us in Jesus in an inimitable way.
For us, this means entrusting ourselves to Jesus Christ and following Him. Our Father does not merely give something of Himself, but gives Himself.
Such is our Father!
Here is the video featuring the three words of Jesus from the first three meditations in this series:
