How deeply our Father longs to find open hearts! Perhaps we cannot even imagine this because God is self-sufficient. It is true: God is perfect and does not need our love to become more perfect. And yet….
Our Father longs for this love, which He Himself is. God longs to share with those creatures whom He has made His children everything He wishes to give them. It is an unimaginably vast amount. However, it requires an open heart to receive it.
Without a doubt, our Father found such a heart in the Virgin Mary. When we look at our own hearts, however, we surely perceive our limitations. We may then be inclined to say that we would gladly give our hearts to our Father, yet we cannot truly do so. Time and again, we fail because of our self-love.
Is that a reason to give up? No, it’s a reason to ask for a new heart. One modeled after the heart of Jesus. It is a reason to implore the Holy Spirit to purify our hearts. It is a reason to ask our Most Holy Mother to carry our narrow hearts to God and plead for this new heart on our behalf.
Wouldn’t that be the most beautiful gift we could give our Father? A heart that belongs to Him. It is a heart into which He can pour what He longs for and in which His love finds a response. We cannot do this alone, and it is good to realize this. We allow God’s love in, and it does its work within us!
There’s something else, too! God wants to use our hearts to serve others. A heart that burns for Him, one that can touch and awaken other hearts. Isn’t giving our hearts entirely to love yet another challenge?
