“Oh, how My paternal love has been forgotten by Men! Yet I love you so tenderly!” (Little Book of the Father)
How easily we humans forget God’s blessings, and with them, our Father, who bestowed them upon us. The consequences are inevitable, for our living connection to God and His presence in our lives is lost. We then easily sink into the normal routine of life without remembering the Lord.
But what becomes of life when it is no longer nourished by God’s love in a way we can perceive? It becomes more and more barren and empty, even if we try to fill it with all kinds of pleasures. Sometimes we want to flee from this inner emptiness and fill it with all sorts of activities and distractions. Yet the emptiness remains….
The Psalm admonishes: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (103:2).
Unfortunately, it is no exaggeration to say that in quite a few parts of the world there is a widespread “forgetting of God.” People live as if God did not exist at all. Sometimes they may not even have heard of Him. This is tremendous suffering for people, though they often do not perceive it as such.
On His part, our Father always offers His love, at every hour of the day! Yet He cannot let His love penetrate into the heart of a person who forgets Him! Even when God sometimes allows difficult trials to come upon a person so that they might remember Him, it is all too easy for them to forget God again once things get better!
Then they live without ever coming to know our Father’s tender love, which is always there for them. It seeks their heart, seeking to warm it and fill it with light. Yet our Father’s love remains unreciprocated. Nevertheless, God continues to seek people until they remember Him!
