NOTE: Since in recent years I have already meditated on most of the biblical texts of the liturgical calendar, I sometimes have recourse to the readings of the traditional calendar when it comes to passages that are very important to me. The Gospel I have chosen today, taken from the Votive Mass for the Propagation of the Faith, is one of them, since it deals with a very topical theme, as I will point out towards the end of this meditation.

The Expulsion of unclean spirits
Mt 10:1-7
‘Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to drive them out and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of illness. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon who is known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who was also his betrayer.
PREACH WITH LOVE
391st Meditation
“He who preaches with love, refutes heretics (HERetiks) enough, even if he does not utter a single argument against them” (St. Francis de Sales).
A wonderful quote from St. Francis, which lends itself to meditation in our “3 minutes for Abba”. Read More
BELIEVE IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND
390th Meditation
“Someone says to me: ‘I must understand in order to believe’. I reply: ‘Believe that you may understand'” (St. Augustine).
In these words of St. Augustine we find once again that simplicity which pervades Sacred Scripture; a simplicity which enables us to arrive at the goal with certainty. Read More
Attaining wisdom
Pr 2:1-9
Reading for the memorial of Saint Benedict the Abbot
My child, if you take my words to heart, if you set store by my commandments, tuning your ear to wisdom, tuning your heart to understanding, yes, if your plea is for clear perception, if you cry out for understanding, if you look for it as though for silver, search for it as though for buried treasure, then you will understand what the fear of Yahweh is, and discover the knowledge of God.
THE TREASURE OF HIS LOVE
389th Meditation
“Our good God has a burning desire to grant us the great treasure of His love, but He wants us to ask Him in supplication and to act in such a way that every deed we perform is a supplication imploring that love” (St. Teresa Margaret Redi).
We must plead fervently and insistently with the Father so that His desire to grant us the great treasure of His love may be fulfilled, as the phrase of the saint we have just heard suggests. Read More
Growing in faith
Mt 9:18-26
‘While Jesus was speaking to them, suddenly one of the officials came up, who bowed low in front of him and said, ‘My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and her life will be saved.’ Jesus rose and, with his disciples, followed him.
THE HOUR OF TRUST
388th Meditation
“When a soul approaches Me with trust, I fill it with such an abundance of graces that it cannot contain them within itself, but radiates them upon other souls. To people who spread devotion to my Mercy I protect them throughout their lives as a loving mother protects her children; and at the hour of their death I will not be their judge but their merciful redeemer (…). The sins that hurt me most are those of mistrust” (Jesus to Sister Faustina Kowalska). Read More
Dying to sin
NOTE: We will listen today to the reading scheduled for this Sunday in the traditional calendar.
Rom 6:3-11
You cannot have forgotten that all of us, when we were baptised into Christ Jesus, were baptised into his death. So by our baptism into his death we were buried with him, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father’s glorious power, we too should begin living a new life.
The objective value of a blessing
Gen 27:1-5,15-29
When Isaac had grown old, and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he summoned his elder son Esau. ‘Son!’ he said, and Esau replied, ‘Here I am.’ He then said, ‘Look, I am old and do not know when I may die. Now take your weapons, your quiver and bow; go out into the country and hunt me some game.
