“WHOEVER CALLED TO THE LORD AND WAS IGNORED?”

267th Meditation

“Whoever called to the Lord and was ignored?” (Sir 2:10b).

Again we can answer with complete certainty: no one!

It would be unthinkable that God would simply ignore us. He knows even our thoughts. “Nothing can be hidden from you, in your loving knowledge you envelop everything and everyone” (Hymn of the Office to God the Father).Let us listen to what the Father tells us in the Message to Mother Eugenia Ravasio:

“All of you who are now living and you, too, who are in the void, but who will live century after century until the end of the world, remember that you are not alone: a Father thinks of you and offers you a share in the unfathomable privileges of His love.”

Could this Father neglect us? This Father, who feeds the little bird at my window; this Father, who did not spare even His own Son (cf. Rom 8:32), but sent Him to humanity far from Him; this Father, who constantly declares His love to us and opens our eyes to recognise it, how could He neglect us? How could He turn a deaf ear when we call upon Him?

There is nothing more sure than the love of our Father; and it is this love that makes Him attentive to all whom He has called to life. Nothing and no one is excluded from the Father’s love, unless he himself closes the door and does not let it in. “You never turn your loving gaze away from your creatures whom you have called into existence and whom you wish to fill with Yourself” (Hymn of the Office to God the Father).

Yes, Sirach is right when he says: “The Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress” (Sir 2:11).

Therefore, “how can we ever thank you, O Beloved Father, for your love and infinite mercy? Therefore we adore you with all the angels and saints, and with all who call upon your name” (Hymn of praise to the Holy Trinity).
