WE FIND EVERYTHING IN THE LORD

268th Meditation

“You will find all things in Me, even in the midst of the greatest darkness” (Inner Word).

Even in the thickest darkness that may hang over our lives, our Father is still present. We may not be able to feel Him then, but He is there. We simply have to hold on to this certainty with a “naked act of faith”.

In mystical theology we speak of the “night of the senses” and the “night of the spirit”. These are processes of purification that the soul goes through, in which she no longer feels God as before. However, God has never abandoned the soul. On the contrary, she finds her ultimate support in the Father, even if she cannot perceive Him. And this is precisely what she needs for her encounter with the Lord to become more profound. We could say that, in the depths of her being, she is certain that it is God who sustains her and in whom she finds everything, even in the midst of the thickest darkness.

Our Father wants us to find everything in Him, and that is where He leads us. The serpent’s deception in Paradise, giving man the impression that God would not grant him something that would be desirable for him (Gen 3:1-5), must be completely disproved in us.

God was, is and will remain love for ever.

This truth wants to penetrate us, and in it we find everything. We no longer have to search for and devise our own happiness and self-realisation. In God we find everything. If we entrust ourselves to His loving guidance, the life that will reach its fullness in heaven begins already here, in our earthly life. God knows what is good for us. He has given us the freedom to decide. If we decide for Him in everything, then we understand what true freedom is: to correspond to His love and to live as His children… Everything else follows from there!
