The great longing for peace which dwells in the hearts of so many people can be realised if they turn to the true source of peace. First of all, it is necessary to be at peace with God, living according to His will. This He offers us in His Son, through whom “He wanted to reconcile all things to him, everything in heaven and everything on earth, by making peace through His death on the cross” (Col 1:20). To his disciples He says: “My own peace I give you” (Jn 14:27).
The sources of peace are known and always accessible to us. But peace must not only enter the hearts of some people; all people must receive it.
This is what the Father gives us to understand in his Message to Mother Eugenia:
“If all mankind invokes and honours Me, I will bring down upon it the spirit of peace like a benevolent dew. If all nations, as such, invoke and honour Me, there will be no more discord, nor wars, because I am the God of peace and where I am, there no war can be.”
This is what God has foreseen for us! The Father always leaves the door to true peace open for us. However, this peace cannot reign as long as people are closed to God’s grace. Conflicts and wars are fruits of evil, distortions of what a life in God’s peace should be.
But this should not discourage us!
The truth is in God. To live in it, to witness to the Lord so that He may be known, and to pray for peace is our contribution to true peace. When the Lord returns in His glory or when He comes to take us into His Kingdom at the hour of our death, He wants to find us working in this service. There, in eternity, will reign the peace which in this world has yet to be realised and is to descend upon it “like a benevolent dew”.
