“ADAM, WHERE ARE YOU?” (Part II)

182nd Meditation

The anguished search of the Heavenly Father for us continues ever since we lost the union with God which we enjoyed in Paradise. Every time we go astray, every time we turn away from “the fountain of living waters, to become cracked cisterns” (Jer 2:13), we hear in the background the call of the Father:

“Adam, where are you?” (Gen 3:9b).

Have you forgotten the hand that created you, I who knit you together in your mother’s womb (Ps 138:13)? Why do you seek me where you can never find me? Why do you listen to idols, who only forge misfortunes?

“Adam, where are you?”

I am so close to your heart and have been waiting for you for so long. Day after day I speak to you. Day after day I seek your nearness, but you do not hear me! Your heart wanders in search of passing joys, and so you carry upon you so many things that will have to be burned as chaff.

“Adam, where are you?”

In reality, everything is so simple; but you seek the complicated way. You make it difficult for yourself, and carry upon your shoulders a heavy yoke. I, on the other hand, offer you my gentle and light yoke (Mt 11:30). Just trust in me! I am your Father!

“Adam, where are you?”

Do you know why I am looking for you? There is only one reason: I seek you because I love you. If you believe me, then I will have found you…
