YOUR SEAL ON MY HEART

Dear Father, we have set out on the path to obtain a pure heart. Indeed, You desire to grant it to us, but we must also do our part. After hearing the word of truth and the gospel of life and believing, we long for nothing more than to be sealed with the promised Spirit (cf. Ephesians 1:13).

This Holy Spirit, whom You sent to us together with Your Son, I imprint as a seal upon my heart, that it may never stray from You in the slightest. May this seal remind me that I belong to You, beloved God, and may it always bring this to mind so that my heart may rejoice and willingly submit to the yoke of Your love.

Without a doubt, my heart still needs to be formed and deeply purified. It is often foolish, easily seduced, falls asleep, and is distracted by things that are not truly important. Yet since You, O Holy Spirit, dwell within it, You urge me to continue on my path without delay and make me feel the emptiness of passing things.

Your seal upon my heart is a great treasure, for it guarantees that You will not abandon me to myself and my inclinations, because I belong to You. You take great care of Your property because it is precious to You. At the same time, You teach me to care for Your property—my heart—and not expose it to unnecessary dangers. You desire to transform my heart into a temple of divine love.

Thus, beloved Holy Spirit, I place You as a seal upon my heart, so that even great waters cannot quench love (cf. Song of Songs 8:6–7).
