244th Meditation
“‘Here I am, I am coming.’ In the scroll of the book it is written of me, my delight is to do your will; your law, my God, is deep in my heart” (Ps 39:8-9).
The source of true joy consists in being united to the Will of our Father and thus receiving the same food that filled the Son of God: to do the Will of the Father (Jn 4:34).
It is not difficult to recognise His Will, for God does not leave His own without instruction for the way. By carrying His law in our hearts, our soul becomes clear and resplendent. Indeed, His precepts have the power to drive away darkness, if we internalise His word and move it in our hearts as Mary did (cf. Lk 2:19).
The joy of living in the Lord’s Will is very deep and spreads harmoniously in us, because the Holy Spirit is ordering everything in us, directing it towards the Father. This joy is joined to the bliss and gratitude of having been called into existence, and thus the true meaning of our life is revealed to us: to know and love God, serving Him as His children.
The restlessness dissipates, the search for external satisfactions ceases, the anxiety of the heart disappears, because “in you [O Father] is the fountain of life, and in your light we see the light” (Ps 35:16).
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (Jn 6:68) – Simon Peter answers Jesus when He asks the disciples if they too will go away.
Where else could they go, if they have met the One who is life itself (Jn 14:6)? The joy of knowing God is incomparable; doing His will is the best food; His instructions are full of wisdom, His love is immeasurable.
Blessed is the man who recognises and confesses Him!
“Wisdom comes from the lips of the upright, and his tongue speaks what is right; the law of his God is in his heart, his foot will never slip” (Ps 36:30).
