“With you I storm the rampart,
with my God I can scale any wall” (Ps 18:29).
Our Father gives us the courage to do great things with Him. Not infrequently “hedges and walls” are erected on the path of following the Lord, which want to discourage us: obstacles that seem insurmountable, one difficulty after another, setbacks and perhaps even concrete enmities.
If we throw in the towel, the difficulties will have overcome us. On the other hand, if we take courage, trusting in the Lord, we will face them and fight. Then we will begin to storm the rampart and scale the walls.
God equips us with everything we need for the journey following Christ. Our life devoted to him and our works of faith should have no limit in order to keep us from evil. Our Father wants to send His light into this often desolate world, but He encounters resistance. If we live as “children of light” (cf. Eph 5:8), being His messengers, we will face the same circumstances that Jesus encountered: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it” (Jn 1:5).
Thus, our Father calls His own to enlist in the army of His Son for the battle between the children of light and the children of darkness. With Him, the walls that prevent us from recognizing our Heavenly Father will be assaulted. With Him will be torn down the fences erected by the powers of darkness to enslave us.
For this we need courage and the spirit of fortitude. The strongholds of the prince of darkness must be overthrown at all levels. We will only achieve this through the One of whom the Revelation of St. John says: “He went forth victorious, that He might continue to conquer” (Rev 6:2), “He judges and fights with justice” (19:11b) and “the armies of heaven (…) follow Him on white horses” (19:14).
The Father wants to enlist us in this army of the Lamb. What a great honor for us!
