“WISER THAN SOLOMON”

“The queen of the South (…) came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.” (Mt 12:42)

Beloved Father, in this fast‑paced world with its flood of information, who still seeks true wisdom? People strive to accumulate knowledge, sometimes believing that knowledge itself brings power. But what kind of power is that? Those who pursue it in this way already show that they lack wisdom. For our part, it is better to listen to Your Word:

“Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her. He who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for he will find her sitting at his gates. To fix one’s thought on her is perfect understanding, and he who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care, because she goes about seeking those worthy of her, and she graciously appears to them in their paths, and meets them in every thought.” (Wis 6:12–16)

It is not difficult to understand that it is the Holy Spirit who wants to enlighten us and unfold within us the gift we call “wisdom.” This gift allows us to savor God from within. It is the Holy Spirit who reminds us of everything Jesus said and did (cf. Jn 14:26), the One “in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge,” as St. Paul testifies in his Letter to the Colossians (2:3).

Therefore, beloved Father, to find wisdom we do not need to travel to the ends of the earth, as the Queen of the South did to hear Solomon. We need only to listen to You, who instruct Us through Your Son, and follow Him. Then wisdom will accompany us and shape us according to the image You have conceived for us. She will be our faithful friend, “for she knows and understands all things, and she will guide me wisely in my actions and guard me with her glory.” (Wis 9:11)
