“Your life is completely in my hands and I decide what and when it happens” (Inner Word).
Those who have given themselves to our Father and have responded to His love can rely on these words with great confidence. They will accompany them in all the critical situations of life and give them the strength not only to overcome these situations, but also to recognize in them the providence and care of our Father.
This phrase is a loving invitation to place the reins of our life in the hands of the Father and to entrust ourselves to Him without reservation in all situations. It is not an attitude of carelessness and false unconcern that wants to leave everything in the hands of nature and overlook our own responsibility in life. Nor does it have anything to do with a fatalism that believes everything is predestined and submits to fate with resignation and helplessness.
Rather, it is an invitation to live in the realism of faith and to be attentive to God’s wise guidance. These words are meant to offer us the security of a love that embraces time and eternity. They are a reminder to us that nothing takes place without our Father having it in mind. This includes both His active will (what He has directly projected in His holy plans) and what He allows to happen, for example, when we are threatened by the powers of evil or the depths of suffering.
In all situations, the Lord will give us the necessary indications and the strength to overcome them. Thus, there are circumstances that we must endure with patience and submission to His will, and others in which the Lord wants us to struggle.
His wisdom will guide us to discern them correctly and to give the appropriate response to each situation.
