Sometimes, beloved Father, it is not easy for us to believe firmly in Your omnipotence when we see so much atrocious injustice in the world and are overcome by the impression that You are not intervening.
Like Your disciples in the Gospel (Lk 9:54), we too would certainly have liked to call down fire from heaven many times to punish those who oppose Your will and to rebuke those who refuse to accept the faith. It is also difficult to witness how many people suffer injustice, often at the hands of a few who do evil.
But precisely then, when events exceed our capacity to understand, our trust that You have the salvation of all people in mind comes into play. Your gaze is not limited to the brief time of our earthly life, but You see us with the eyes of love and call everyone to Your eternal Kingdom. Your desire is that all may be converted to You and not be condemned, so that they may not be eternally separated from You.
In reality, we could recognize in Your Son Jesus Christ what is sometimes incomprehensible to us. He, without stain of sin, who revealed only Your love, was mistreated and tortured. Very soon we will hear all that they did to Him and how, after humiliating Him, they crucified Him. And how did He, the true King whom all the angels serve, react? He did not curse His murderers and executioners, but uttered the incomparable words: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Lk 23:34)
Beloved Father, that should be enough to silence questions and concerns. Let us contemplate the Crucified One with gratitude. There, on the cross, the mystery of Your love shines forth. There, everything is answered. You know what You are doing and what You allow. Therefore, we simply bow down before You and worship You.
