“Trust in me with a trust that transforms you and that I cannot resist. Then I will forgive your faults and fill you with the greatest graces” (Message of the Father to Sister Eugenia Ravasio).
God Himself gives us the power of His Fatherly Heart. Here we can speak of the “madness of love” that the Holy God has for us. No way is too long for Him, no burden too heavy, no fatigue too arduous to convince human beings of His love for them.
What was it that moved God to come down to us and take the way of suffering so that we might be redeemed from sin? What was it that moved so many missionaries to face unspeakable hardships in order to bring souls to God? The ultimate motivation was always the love of the Father. And it was this same love that moved Him to appear to Mother Eugenia so that she could write down His words, which make us understand the greatness of His love.
And this love is also the reason for our trust. By responding to Him, by immersing ourselves in the ocean of God’s love, we conquer His Fatherly Heart. At the same time, unshakable trust in God’s love prevents us from falling into despair in the face of so many faults and sins that still afflict us.
It is not always easy for us to understand that it is not primarily the quantity of our deeds that guarantees us God’s love – although its importance should never be relativised – but that trust and confidence in our Father conquers His Heart at a stroke. And the greater our trust, the less He will be able and willing to resist, but will respond with His generosity.
This trust also transforms our inner attitude, because we become more and more detached from ourselves and look to God for all the help we need. In this way we become more and more docile and mouldable to our Father. This attitude should not be confused with the helplessness of an immature child; it is the fruit of a true knowledge of God and of our loving dependence on Him.
