TRUE UNITY

“Have we not all one father? Has not one God created us?” (Mal 2:10)

Beloved Father, in these words, we catch a glimpse of the unity among all people, as you have ordained. We are all created in Your image and likeness and are all called to be with You in eternity. However, this can only happen if we live according to the order you have established. Since you created us with free will, we can fail to reach our goal if we abuse the freedom you gave us.

In the Message to Mother Eugenia, you state: “Finally, the creation of man… I was pleased with my work! Then man committed sin, but precisely then my infinite goodness is manifested.”

Then, our Father went out in search of His children, who no longer lived in paradisiacal communion with Him and drew upon themselves all the consequences of sin that we still suffer today. This search never ceased because our Father wants to unite all the men He redeemed through the blood of His Son in Himself.

Thus, before His Passion, Jesus prayed to the Father: “since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him” (Jn 17:2). Further on He implored Him: “Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one” (Jn 17:11b). Jesus added, “I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us” (Jn 17:20–21).

Thus, beloved Father, you have traced out for us the way to true unity and brotherhood among men: your Son Jesus Christ. Through Him, we can return to you in time and in eternity. Grant, beloved Father, that through our lives men may experience your love and be able to exclaim like St. Augustine: “Late have I loved you, Beauty so ancient and so new, late have I loved you!”
