TRUE GREATNESS AND HAPPINESS

“God does not become greater when you adore Him. But you become greater and happier when you serve Him” (St. Augustine).

God possesses fullness in Himself. Nothing can increase or diminish His majesty. His love for us is completely pure and selfless.

Our Father calls us to live in communion with Him so that we may receive and embrace all His love. It is this love that awakens us to our true human condition and makes us what the divine design intended us to be.

Opening ourselves to this love and serving it is the meaning of our existence. Each day we do so, we grow greater because we participate in God’s greatness. St. Augustine convincingly taught us the difference between pride and humility. Pride diminishes man because he elevates himself when, in reality, he is merely a creature. Humility, on the other hand, exalts the person, because he submits himself to God and, therefore, to the Most High.

When we adore God, praise His greatness, and offer Him our love, the divine life—which is perfect in itself—can permeate us more and more. This is our greatest joy. Indeed, our Father created us for eternal happiness, which we can already anticipate on earth. Our true bliss is God Himself and union with Him. All other expressions of happiness arise from there, always respecting a hierarchical order.

Serving God becomes our great joy and the true fulfillment of our life. The more the Lord draws us to Himself, the more we come to know His greatness and love. His love reaches down to lift us up and make us happy. Such is our Father!
