‘You only have to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and then everything that my fatherly kindness has planned can come true’ (Inner Word).
The Father and the Son have sent us the best inner Teacher, who guides us safely through this life, shapes us in God’s image and makes our life fruitful, always provided we follow His instructions: it is the Holy Spirit.
He never fails, and if we learn to listen to Him, He will watch over us with great love so that we do not stray. In His vigilance, He will even draw our attention to the small obstacles that hinder the unfolding of love. He does not do this with excessive concern and scrupulousness, but speaks to our hearts with gentleness and love.
The following quote from Fr. Meschler, S.J., illustrates how the Holy Spirit acts within the Holy Trinity:
“The Holy Spirit is enthroned in the heart of the Father and the Son as the personification of love. As such, He delights and transfigures the life of the Godhead with grace, sweetness, joy and delight, governing the torrents of His kindness and directing them wherever He wills, as St. Bernard so beautifully expresses: ‘The Holy Spirit is the kindness of God and the Lord in the Heart of the Father.’
He also wants to reign in our hearts as Lord with grace, sweetness, joy and delight, and channel the torrents of the Father’s kindness towards us. Therefore, we must never be afraid to follow the promptings of the Spirit. He will make our lives agile and light and will make us persons born of the Spirit.
