284th Meditation
“I come from God, My Father; to Him I return; to Him alone I belong” (Father’s Message to Sister Eugenia Ravasio).
Let us dwell today on the last part of this sentence of Father’s Message: “To Him alone I belong”.
The Father has given us this certainty, and we must repeat it again and again: “It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture” (Ps 99:3).
Who could protect and care for his property better than the one who created it? Thus says the Lord, your Creator: “I have called you by your name, you are mine” (Is 43:1). “I hid you in the shadow of my hand” (51:16).
With this certainty, we can face life with its various threats. Whoever wants to lay a finger on us, whoever wants to dispose of us illegitimately, whoever thinks he has a right over us, whoever wants to manipulate our soul, will have to deal with our Father. He will re-establish justice and will know how to defend the freedom that He Himself has given us: “If the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free” (Jn 8:36).
“To him alone I belong”.
These words show us that our hearts cannot belong to anything or anyone in the same way as they belong to God. Otherwise these would become idols, to be rejected. This reality is reflected in marriage, where self-giving and marital love must belong exclusively to the spouse and to no one else.
“To Him alone I belong.”
It is comforting to know that it is our loving Father who rules over our lives. We know how lovingly and kindly He regards His property. Thus, we can stop seeking other securities for ourselves, which may even come into concurrence with Him and, ultimately, make us dependent.
To belong to Him alone is our freedom!
