“God has not commanded any one to be ungodly, and he has not given any one permission to sin” (Ecclus 15:20).
Let us not be deceived by those who would teach us falsehoods and mislead people, thus relativizing the truth.
God rejects evil and there is no shadow in Him (cf. Jas1:17). As much as God loves the sinner, and His own Son gave His life for the sinner so that he might be converted and live, our Father firmly rejects sin and evil. There is no ambiguity here, and there can be no confusion. Jesus, the Holy and Sinless One, bore the sins of the world, but He never sinned Himself and can never want man to sin.
It is important to be clear about this and to know how to discern, because unfortunately there is a spirit at work in the world and even in the Church that wants to call good evil and evil good. This is not our Father! He does not want us to fall into the spiritual sickness of error, nor to be contaminated by the darkness of sin. The one who does this is the spirit of deception, and whoever follows him becomes a “deceived deceiver”.
Our Father wants us to live in the truth and has given us everything necessary to do so. We Catholics have received, in addition to Sacred Scripture, the authentic Magisterium of the Church, so that we have a clear and sure guide. It is like the “river of the water of life, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb” (Rev 22:1). So we know exactly how to live, and the Lord gives us all the grace we need to make it a reality.
No false doctrine should contaminate this crystal clear water, for thanks to it we know what is sin and what is not, and so the truth forms our conscience.
If we avoid sin and hold on to the truth, our Father will not leave us alone, even in times of confusion and difficult circumstances. Then we live in His light!
