467th Meditation
“Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother” (Mt 12:50).
With these words, Jesus makes us understand in what the deepest unity between God and humanity consists.
Certainly, we are all called to live as children of God and to love and respect one another. But this fraternity can only be fully realized when we fulfill the condition that Jesus mentions by striving with all our will and with all our heart to do the Will of our Father. Then the closest bond with the Son of God is formed and we become “one spirit” with Him. And not only with Him, but with all the believers here on earth and with the whole heavenly family whose joy it is to always do the Father’s Will.
As with all things divine, the condition for attaining this unity is very simple. Jesus tells us: “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well” (Mt 6:33).
Then all we have to do is to strive to do the will of God, so that this special relationship with Jesus and with all those who, like Him, do the will of the Father, may arise. Fraternity among human beings is predetermined, so there is no need to build it by our own efforts. We simply have to enter into it, and God Himself will be the bond of unity.
Then we will recognize each other and know when someone is sincerely seeking the Father’s Will. With such we will have that wonderful fellowship of which Jesus speaks in these words. Then we will be brothers and sisters in the heart of our Heavenly Father.
