THE VIGILANCE OF LOVE

“Time is pressing” (Message of the Father to Sister Eugenia Ravasio).

The Eternal Father tells us that time is short; the Apostle Paul exhorts us to “making the most of the time” (Eph 5:16). So there is no time to lose!

In fact, every hour that we waste in the vanities and trivialities of this world, instead of devoting it to the service of our Lord, is an hour lost.

Certainly, today’s phrase can be interpreted in several dimensions.

Both the world and each person have been given a limited period of time, which only the Father knows and determines. Therefore, when He points out that time is short, it is an exhortation to carry out without delay, with all our strength and perseverance, the part that corresponds to us in God’s work. These words of Jesus in the Gospel of St. John make it clear to us:

“We must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day; night comes, when no one can work” (Jn 9:4).

Sacred Scripture exhorts us in many ways to be vigilant and to always wait for the return of Christ, so that we may be prepared and the Lord may find us working as laborers in his vineyard.

The opening words of today’s meditation, taken from the Father’s message, are placed in this context:

“Time is pressing! I want people to know as soon as possible that I love them…”

The urgency of God’s love is for people to know Him as He is and to respond to His love. Only then will their lives unfold their deepest meaning and become fruitful. Only then will the true order of the cosmos be restored: The relationship of love between the Creator and His creature, man, whom He has raised as His child. Only then will the necessary vigilance born of love be awakened to read the signs of the times and not waste time.
