‘Do not allow the sad spectacle of human injustice to disturb your soul. It too has its place in the plan of salvation. Above human injustice, you will one day see the triumph of God’s justice’ (Padre Pio of Pietrelcina).
In today’s quote, Saint Padre Pio offers great comfort to all who suffer at the hands of this world’s injustices and helplessly witness the spread of evil. Indeed, it is difficult to bear, and the soul can fall into restlessness and sadness when even prayer seems unable to change the course of events. Added to this is the constant stream of bad news that reaches us if we do not consciously shield ourselves from it. Thus, the question may arise in the soul as to why God allows all this and why things do not seem to change.
With his advice, Padre Pio does not mean us to fall into fatalism and resign ourselves, saying, ‘Oh well! That’s the way things are, and we can’t change them.”
Of course, we must do everything in our power to counteract injustice and implore the Lord to intervene and establish justice. However, at times it may seem that our heavenly Father is not listening to us.
But this is not the case! This is where today’s phrase comes in, inviting us to trust. God knows the right moment. If our Father has not yet intervened, it is because He has His reasons, which go far beyond what we can imagine.
If the soul becomes aware of this faith, it will be able to recover — or better yet, preserve — inner peace by placing its trust in the heavenly Father, with the assurance that one day it will ‘see the triumph of God’s justice.’
