THE TASTE OF TRUTH

“Every one who is of the truth hears my voice” (Jn 18:37).

Our Heavenly Father has sown the love of truth deep in our hearts.  Although mankind has gone astray in many ways, there remains in the depths of the soul a longing for God, who is the Truth itself, as Jesus tells us so clearly (Jn 14:6).

For this reason, man can still awaken to the fullness of truth, abandon his erroneous ways and follow the Lord. If he does this and hears the call of the Father, he will prove that he is “of the truth”. With God’s grace, he will then be able to root himself ever deeper in the truth and remain faithful to it in spite of all seductions.

For everyone who is “of the truth”, the words of Jesus are daily nourishment. Every word of His that we assimilate and move in our hearts like Mary (cf. Lk 2:19) will consolidate us in the truth and give us the unique taste of truth. This, in turn, will teach us to distinguish the words of Jesus from those that do not have the taste of truth. In this way, the Lord’s words, that His own hear His voice and do not follow a false shepherd (cf. Jn 10:4-5) will be increasingly fulfilled.

Being rooted in the truth and living by it creates a wonderful unity with all those who are also at home in the truth. This unity is an infinitely precious gift which our Father gives us and which is strengthened more and more in the following of His Son.

Aware of this grace that our Lord gives us, we will be impelled to intercede before God for those who have not yet recognized Him, so that they may allow themselves to be found by the love of our Father and take the place that God has assigned them in the communion of saints.
