THE RIGHT KEY

“What use is a golden key if it does not open the door of truth” (St. Augustine).

These words have been bequeathed to us by St Augustine. It is undoubtedly the profound lesson he learned in his search for truth, when he tried to open the door of truth with various keys and did not succeed.

But at a certain moment, when our beloved Father wanted to answer his search, He gave him the grace to open the Holy Scriptures at the indicated place and the radiant light of God flooded him. It was Kairos for him and from then on he served the Lord with all his heart.

It is important that people seek the truth. Our Father planted this longing in his heart and as long as it is not completely blinded and hardened, the human heart is capable of finding the truth. The Father Himself wants to reveal the truth to us through His Son, the only one who can say of Himself: “I am the truth” (Jn 14:6).

We were created for God and only in Him can we find true fulfilment. In the same way, a sincere search for truth will always lead us to the One who is the Truth. As long as you do not know the truth, you can try different keys to find it. But again and again you will find that the key does not fit and the door does not open, that the soul does not find true nourishment in all sorts of doctrines and even runs the risk of being confused, as happened to St Augustine.

But our Father will accompany every sincere seeker and make him realise that he has not yet found the Truth. He Himself holds the key in His hands, and He will lead him to the right path in every possible way. Our Lord knows how to use every circumstance to help the seeker to find. The precise moment will come, as St Augustine also experienced. Then it will happen. He will no longer have to search for the keys, because our Father Himself will have opened the door for him.

And what about us, who have the grace to know the truth? Let us show others the way and above all let us pray for them that they may find the truth. That too is part of our Father’s plan.
