Beloved Father, how long have You been waiting for the conversion of Your “first love”! With unwavering faithfulness, You continue to call on them to this day to recognize Your Son and follow Him. It has not yet happened, but You will not cease until the end of time, for You never betray Your love.
You have continued Your work with the holy remnant, sending Your Son’s apostles to the ends of the earth to gather a people from all nations and bring them into the Church. Here we are now, called to bear witness to Your love to all peoples. Perhaps we can also reach Your “first love,” for there is nothing better we could do for them than to bear witness to the One whom the heavenly Father sent as their Savior and the Savior of the world.
What would happen then?
Their eyes would be opened, a longing long held by the people would be fulfilled, deep wounds would be healed, and something would come to pass that our heavenly Father has been waiting for so long.
Last but not least: true peace could come—peace that flows from the heart of God.
Certainly, dear Father, we cannot achieve this on our own. But we can remind You of this, just as Moses did to protect the people from Your wrath. We can remind You that even though the Jewish people are now back in the land of their fathers, they are not yet truly at home. They will only be at home when Your will is fully fulfilled and they recognize Your Son, thus entering the “Promised Land.”
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.” (John 1:17)
