«You must love Me and honour Me so that you will not be judged, or rather, that you will be judged with infinitely merciful love. Have no doubt! If My Heart were not like this, I would have already destroyed the world every time it committed sin!» (Message of God the Father to Sister Eugenia Ravasio).
In fact, these few words should be enough for us to grasp the extent of our Father’s love for us. In a way, we are witnesses of this, as our Father makes clear in the following passage from the Message to Mother Eugenia: ‘As you have seen, at every moment My protection manifests itself through graces and benefits.’
Indeed, despite the fact that so many terrible sins are committed, the Lord does not exterminate this world. Who but our most loving Father could be so patient? Jesus’ disciples wanted to bring fire down from heaven on a Samaritan village because its inhabitants did not want to welcome their Lord (Lk 9:54).
However, God does not turn against his own heart and will offer people his love again and again, even in the midst of a world so far away from Him. We must never doubt His love, nor give in to any thoughts or feelings that call it into question.
God asks so little of us in return for everything He gives us. It should be the most natural thing for us to give it to Him, unless we have been wounded so deeply by the sin that entered the world that we find it extremely difficult to recognise how little we have to do: respond to our Father’s love and honour Him. It is heartening that our Father asks of us what should, in reality, be our greatest joy — but that is our Father!
