“He will swallow up death for ever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces” (Isaiah 25:8).
Dear Father, the day is coming when You will remind us through Your Church of the great work You have accomplished through Your Son. There on Golgotha, You destroyed death forever. Then the tears will be wiped away, for every person can receive eternal life if they believe in Your Son and recognize Your love.
The hour is coming—the infinitely holy hour in which Your Son accomplished everything, the hour in which He came to redeem humanity and proved His obedience unto death.
What a painful hour it is to see how deeply people reject You and how the powers of evil reveal their hatred, and yet: what an hour of grace You brought forth from it! His death brought us life. Who can truly comprehend this love in all its depth? But we can worship it and let it enter our hearts through faith.
In the Father’s Little Book, You describe Your love to us: “In My Son they will speak ill of Me, they will crucify Me to bring about My death.” Shall I stop because of this?”
No, Father, You did not give up, and You never give up on bringing Your children home. Your Son has become the Way. That is our hope, and You seek those who are still far away and invite us to seek them with You.
NOTE: Lent begins tomorrow. In my daily reflections on Scripture, I offer a retreat along this path during the forty days. The reflections on the Father will continue and are intended to serve as a meditative supplement to the themes addressed during this time.
