“THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD”

“I am the light of the world” (Jn 8:12).

Is there any word more beautiful than this one that You, beloved Father, have granted us through Your Son? We all long for light. Even on the natural plane, light fills us with joy—and how much more the supernatural light, which illuminates everything!

Why do so many people pass by this light? Do they perhaps love darkness more than light, as Sacred Scripture testifies?

“The light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God.” (Jn 3:19–21)

This is undoubtedly true, simply because You said so. But, beloved Father, people do not know You as You are. Perhaps they are so confused that they can no longer distinguish good from evil. This happens frequently today. Perhaps their consciences have become dulled, and the prince of darkness has blinded them.

But there must be some way to awaken them so that they are not cast into darkness forever and forced to suffer the terrible fate of the demons. They must be converted and live!

We know, beloved Father, that this is also Your great desire. May a ray of Your Son’s light reach them and touch their hearts, so that the layer of ice surrounding them begins to melt and the light may penetrate, driving away the darkness. After all, they were created to live and to love.

In eternity, beloved Father, everything will be bathed in Your light. There will be no more shadows or abysses of the soul, but everything will be purified and clearer than a crystal-clear lake. May everyone reach that place, even if they must first undergo a profound purification after death. But may no one be condemned forever. Please, beloved Lord, they are Your children.
