Our Father does not entice us with material goods, though He can grant them to us. He does not entice us with spiritual goods either, though He abundantly fills us with them. Nor does He promise that our life will be a bed of roses or that those who follow Him will no longer suffer.
Rather, the Father draws us with Himself. He Himself is the promise: the ocean of His mercy that longs to purify us of all our sins and all the filth we carry within. He wants us to recognize the infinite power of His mercy and to immerse ourselves in it. It is the spring that flows from the Savior’s open side into this world to heal the nations and every soul.
The Father draws us with His love, in which we can immerse ourselves until we forget ourselves. We can never fully comprehend it in this world; otherwise, we would not wish to remain here a moment longer. In His wisdom, God has arranged things so that, on the one hand, He awakens in us the longing for Heaven and, on the other, He exhorts us to fulfill our task here on Earth.
The infinity of God’s love… When we find it, what else could we possibly need? Is this not the love for which we were created? Isn’t it there where we truly feel at home and experience eternal bliss?
Our Father invites us to savor a foretaste of eternity here on Earth. That is who our Father is!
