“Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them” (Ps 119:140).
The Word of God has been given to us so that through it we may have life. It is different from merely human words. It has the power to illuminate our whole life and to transform us. It is the Lord Himself who communicates to us through His Word. Indeed, God speaks to us and thus gives us access to His own being. Through the words that come from His Heart, He grants us an encounter with His love.
In none of the Lord’s words can we find any falsehood. All His words are pure. Indeed, it cannot be otherwise, for “God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all” (1 Jn 1:5b).
This is why we come to love His Word. It accompanies us throughout our lives and guides us along the way (cf. Ps 119:105). If we allow it to penetrate deeply into our hearts, it will spread its light and drive out all that is impure from us. Nothing dark can stand before His Word, because its light pierces the darkness.
Day by day the Father feeds us with His Word, for “Human beings live not on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Mt 4:4).
The Word of God gives us great security: “Sky and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Mt 24:35).
The Word of God communicates justice and understanding to us: “Your instructions are upright for ever, give me understanding and I shall live” (Ps 118:144).
The Word of God is truth: “You are close to me, O Lord, and all your commandments are true” (Ps 118:151).
The Heavenly Father sent His Son to reconcile all mankind to Himself and make us sharers in His love (cf. Col 1:20).
“The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory that He has from the Father as only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth” (Jn 1:14).
Can I close myself to His love? Not at all! Your servant loves you, O Lord.
