163rd Meditation
“Who shall go up to the mountain of the Lord?
Who shall take a stand in His holy place?
The clean of hands and pure of heart, whose heart is not set on vanities,
who does not swear an oath in order to deceive” (Ps 24:3-4).
The Father calls all to “go up to the mountain of the Lord”. He has equipped them with everything they need to do so. It is now up to us to follow this invitation wholeheartedly and set out for the holy mountain of the Lord.
In His merciful love, the Father has freed us from the greatest debts and, through the blood of His Son, cleanses us from the leprosy of sin. Thus, we can enter with “innocent hands and pure heart” into the eternal abodes. For the Wedding of the Lamb, to which God invites us, we need to put on a wedding garment (Mt 22:11-12).
Our Father will watch over us and teach us to avoid everything impure, whether in thought, word or deed. May nothing dishonest come from our lips, may our members become “instruments of righteousness in the service of God” (Rom 6:13b), may our heart belong entirely to Him and may all self-centeredness disappear.
“O God, create in me a pure heart,” exclaims the psalmist (Ps 50:12).
It is a heart that begins to be purified in its depths of all selfishness and tries to bring to the light of God every shadow that it discovers within itself. It is a heart that is attentive to God and keeps watch over itself, so that nothing impure penetrates its relationship with the Lord and with humankind.
Thus the Holy Spirit guides us day by day until we reach the “mountain of the Lord,” where the Throne of God and of the Lamb is, and where all serve Him (Rev 22:3). We will join in His praise, occupying the place that our beloved Father has designated for us.
