THE GOOD DEEDS GOD HAS ORDAINED THAT WE SHOULD DO

99th Meditation on God the Father

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10).

The Father has prepared everything for us. Thus, it is not primarily a matter of actualizing our own ideas in our lives. Indeed, they are limited and countless, lined up one after the other without really pointing us in the right direction.

It is rather a matter of becoming what we are in the eyes of God. Each person is a mystery of God’s love and He has endowed him or her with rich gifts. In the love of the Father we can discover this mystery ever more deeply, so that it can unfold and become a great gift for God and for humankind. This is exactly what God wants!

How much light can be radiated by people who walk the path of holiness and carry out the good works that “God has ordained beforehand for them to practice”! They have found the “holy track” to follow, and every work they perform is a blessing to this world. They have become the “light of the world” (Mt 5:14) and other people will be able to take them as a model. It is the light of the Father Himself that shines in them! They allow themselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit and follow his motions. Thus, their works have not only a limited earthly value, but a supernatural one, so that they become works that count for eternity, works that are ordained by God and that, when they are done, bring deep peace to the soul.

Moreover, by practicing the good works which “God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them”, our love for God the Father increases. We will be filled with wonder at all that He entrusts to us. We will be amazed to experience each of His works – however extensive they may be – strengthening and fortifying us from within. And even better: it will become each time, more natural for us to live in God’s Will and to be at home in it. In this way, we will also find our deeper and truer identity.

In Christ Jesus, God has called us to do these good works. By practicing them, we live according to the design that the Heart of the Father has planned for our lives from of old. By God’s grace, we will have found the “holy track” to follow. If we continue on the path where it leads us, we will be able to recognize and experience the extraordinary wonders of divine providence.
