THE GOLDEN KEY TO THE FATHER’S HEART

“Give yourself to God without reserve. He is a Father, and a most loving Father, who would rather allow heaven and earth to collapse than abandon anyone who has placed their trust in Him” (St. Paul of the Cross).

Both through the saints and in His own words, the Lord invites us again and again to trust Him without reserve. It is the golden key that opens the heart of our Father, who values our trust so much—even if it is only a small flame or a mere spark—that He could never ignore it.

This should awaken in us an even greater desire to place unlimited trust in our Father. That is what He asks of us, and it will bring us most quickly into His heart.

Trust is certainly, first and foremost, a grace that we can ask for, but it also requires our cooperation. So what can we do, besides fervently asking for great trust?

One essential aspect is cultivating gratitude for all that we receive from our Heavenly Father, including spiritual and natural goods. Gratitude opens our eyes to discover more and awakens our hearts to growing love.

Let us look to the Virgin Mary and imitate how she meditated on the Word of the Lord in her heart (cf. Lk 2:19). Then the Word will penetrate us and spread its light. It has the power to transform us and make us docile to God’s will. In this way, trust becomes deeper, because God’s will has become the spiritual food we live on (cf. Jn 4:34) and which is always available to us, whether in the desert or at the Lord’s banquet. We entrust the guidance of our lives to the Word of God.

It is also good to make small acts of the will: “I want to trust in the Lord and not follow my own thoughts or be led by my fears.” Thus, we begin to take small steps, expected and accompanied by our Heavenly Father. And then we will be ready to take the great step of abandoning ourselves completely into God’s arms and arriving home. Love will have conquered, and trust will have been its guide.
