“[God] will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Rev 21:4a).
It is wise not to focus only on the short time of our earthly life, but to see ourselves as pilgrims on the way to our eternal home. We should be especially aware of this when our Father allows us to experience suffering that we may have to endure for a long time or even until the end of our lives. In His goodness, God will give us the strength to bear it, and we can even make it fruitful for the salvation of souls if we accept it and offer it to the Lord as a sacrifice. How much fruit can come from bearing a cross in this way! And what a comfort it is for us to know that our whole life and our heavy crosses can become fruitful!
But it also helps us to raise our eyes to eternity. There, the Lord will wipe away every tear from our eyes. When we arrive forever in the glory of heaven, where “there shall be no more death, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more” (Rev 21:4b), our Father will reward us for everything. This is what He has promised us, and this is how it will be.
What glory awaits us after this time on earth! As we lift up our hearts and trust in our Father, we will be comforted and encouraged by His promises. Already here on earth, the Father is very close to us and invites us to bear His easy yoke (cf. Mt 11:30). How much more will He be able to shower us with His love when we reach eternity!
Joy in the expectation of the fulfillment of God’s promises for eternity can accompany us throughout our daily life on earth if we lift our eyes to our Father again and again and let these words move in our hearts:
“The Father will wipe away every tear from our eyes”.
Then let us go forward! God will make all things well!
