189th Meditation
“At many moments in the past and by many means, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; but in our time, the final days, he has spoken to us in the person of his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things and through whom he made the ages” (Heb 1:1-2).
When the time was fulfilled, God spoke in an authentic and incomparable way through His beloved Son and exhorted us to listen to Him, as the Gospel tells us:
“And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and from the cloud there came a voice, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him'” (Mk 9:7).
When we meet Jesus and listen to His Word, we always meet the Father Himself. In all His gestures, in all His words, in all His works our Father is present, so that Jesus answers Philip when the latter asks Him to show him the Father:
“Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father, so how can you say, “Show us the Father”?” (Jn 14:9)
How wonderful it is to contemplate Jesus and to listen day after day to His Word in the Holy Gospel, knowing that our Father Himself speaks to us through Him and that His voice will never be extinguished!
How healing it is to look at Jesus on the Cross and to recognise how much the Father has loved us!
How moving it is to contemplate the Crib and see how the Father gives Himself to us in His Son!
How our hearts are enlarged to know that this beloved Son of God will return at the End of Time and bring everything to its consummation!
May our praise and gratitude never cease!
