“The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand” (Jn 3:35).
There is no greater mystery of love than the love between the Father and the Son, and this love is the Holy Spirit Himself. He is worthy of adoration, and as we adore Him, He reveals Himself more and more to our hearts, even though we will only understand Him in eternity. But even now our soul rejoices in the encounter with God and exults with joy in the longing to behold the glory of the Holy Trinity face to face in eternity.
The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in His hands. In His Son He has adopted us as His children and looks upon us with the same love with which He has loved Him. Thus our Father always looks through His Son to us, who belong to Him, because Jesus has brought us into His loving relationship with the Heavenly Father. While our Lord is the Son of the Father by virtue of His divine nature, we become His children by grace.
What an unmerited gift our Heavenly Father gives us! He chose this way of salvation for us simply because He loves us and because He Himself is love. There is no other reason than love!
And in what hands did the Father place the destiny of humanity: in the hands of the One who has always loved Him, who was begotten by Him in love and is of the same nature as Him. So God has given us, humanity, the best: He has given Himself.
And what about us?
If we remain faithful to the Lord in His grace, we can approach the throne of God with confidence because of Jesus (Heb 4:16). He Himself intercedes for us, He who loved us to death and asked His Father: “Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am” (Jn 17:24).
And we know where Jesus is: He has returned to His Father and to our Father (Jn 20:17). That is where we are on our way, as beloved children of our heavenly Father.
