184th Meditation
“Could I give a more precious gift to humankind than my only-begotten Son?” (Interior Word).
In these days when the so-called “O Antiphons” prepare us for the Coming of the Savior, we can take a deep look into the Heart of our Father. Indeed, it was He who sent us His Son, thus giving us what He loves most and doing for us the most He could have done.
You, Beloved Father, send us the One “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Col 2:3).
“No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made Him known” (Jn 1:18).
From all eternity, you, O Father, prepared this Day of love for us, waiting for the fullness of time to come (Gal 4:4). You wanted us to recognize you in your Son. You wanted us to understand how close you are to us and how much you love us.
Only your Son could make this known to us. Only He could reveal to us the fullness of your love. In Him alone dwells all the glory of your being.
How can we ever thank you enough, for words fall short! You yourself will have to inspire us, for how could we ever grasp even an iota of your glory in our poor understanding?
You send us the Holy Spirit to help us assimilate what is beyond our capacity. He cries out these healing words in us: “Abba, beloved Father” (Gal 4:6). These simple words reveal to us from within the mystery of love, so that it is clear to us that the Father sent His Son and in Him gave us the greatest proof of His love. There can be no greater love!
If we live Advent in depth, this time of tender preparation for the Feast in which the Son came into this world, we will know that He, Jesus, is the pledge of our Father’s love.
