THE FATHER GIVES TO ALL ABUNDANTLY

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him” (James 1:5).

No one should be distressed about lacking special wisdom. We know that God distributes His gifts according to His will (1 Cor. 12:11), and we must not forget that the greatest wisdom consists in keeping God’s commandments and following Jesus Christ. Those who accumulate all the knowledge in the world but do not know or obey what is essential possess far less wisdom than we do if we do so.

Yet we should not be content with this; rather, we can confidently turn to our Heavenly Father and ask Him to increase our wisdom. He loves it when we humbly confess our shortcomings and delights in filling us with the abundance of His loving heart. It is a great joy for our Father to give, and how He longs to pour out upon all people the wonderful gifts that spring from the richness of His heart!

If we open our eyes and do not overlook His grace, we will see that this is what He does continually. A good request we can make to our Heavenly Father, as well as to the Virgin Mary, is that they help us to see and appreciate what He gives us day after day. If we do so, our eyes will open more and more, and we will become more grateful and more intimately united with the heart of our Father. This growing gratitude will make us wise, for it will lead us to attribute everything to its ultimate cause: God Himself. That is true wisdom!

Our Father always waits for us to turn to Him, because He desires nothing more than to shower His fatherly goodness on everyone. No one should feel too insignificant! We only have to turn to Him, and we will always be welcome if we approach Him with sincerity. How comforting it is to know that our Father and Creator loves us! Thanks to this certainty, we can abandon ourselves completely, trust, and walk the path of life with confidence.
