THE DWELLING OF GOD IN THE SOUL

413th Meditation

“As for you, souls in a state of sin, or who are ignorant of religious truth, I will not be able to enter you; however, I will be close to you, because I never stop calling you, inviting you to desire to receive the benefits I bring you, so that you may see the light and be healed of sin” (Father’s message to Sister Eugenia Ravasio).

Here the Father expresses the great love with which He follows each soul, never ceasing to call her. However, He cannot dwell in a soul that is in a state of sin.

Just as it is necessary to live in a state of grace in order to receive Holy Communion, that is, for the Lord to enter our hearts, so it is indispensable for souls to leave behind the ways of sin and error so that God can permanently establish His dwelling place in them.

In another passage of the Message to Mother Eugenia, the Father says that souls need to be touched with certain divine caresses. He wants to awaken in them the longing for Him, which, although often buried deep in the soul, is still there, because God created human beings in His image.

So how can this happen?

We all live thanks to the infinite patience of God, who – as He Himself says – never ceases to call and invite us. Thus, the loving presence of the Lord constantly envelops human being; a presence that is not simply passive, but an active search for souls. The Father uses every means to make people listen to His voice and awaken them from their lethargy. All circumstances, whether great or small, are caused or taken advantage of by the Father to activate that longing buried in human beings.

The whole Church triumphant and Church militant is involved in this task. Even the purgative Church takes part, for the souls in purgatory know well what what they lacked to be in full union with God and can intercede for people who are still on earth. Therefore, sinners and the strayed are surrounded by a whole army of love, which wants nothing more than their salvation.
