“THE CONVERSION OF THE HEART”

Beloved Father, the outcome of the story of Joseph and his brothers shows how You know how to use even the evil that people think and do to carry out Your plan of love. This demonstrates Your omnipotence and gives us hope when we witness so much injustice in the world. Who, if not You, could turn evil into good? Only You!

Thus, we can live and cling to You in the midst of the evil that spreads around us. That does not mean that we have to stop calling “evil” “evil,” but we take away its claim to omnipotence and do not give up. In the end, it will not be evil or the Evil One who triumphs, but the power of Your love. That is certain!

Even in apocalyptic times, it is important to keep this in mind, for You never cease to care for Your own and to call all people to conversion.

When Joseph lay in the empty pit, who could have imagined what he would one day become? Could anyone have imagined that he would become the “second in command” of Egypt and later save his own family from starvation—the very ones who had wanted to kill him?

No! Many of the things You do we cannot even imagine! Some of Your works You announce in advance, but even then You must open our eyes so that we can recognize their fulfillment. All these wonderful events that You have arranged have been recorded in Scripture to strengthen our faith.

And that is what we need, beloved Father—a strong faith that, under no circumstances, allows us to become discouraged or intimidated by the power of darkness.

The story of Joseph is an example of this, and even more so the Passion of Your Son. In the deepest darkness, when everything seemed to have come to an end, the victory of Your love over darkness shone forth on Calvary.

Soon we will be able to cry out in triumph: “O death, where is thy victory?
O death, where is thy sting?”
(cf. Hos 13:14b and 1 Cor 15:55).
