THE BEST PATH

“I always guide you along the best path, the one that benefits you most” (Inner Word).

If we have consciously surrendered our lives to our heavenly Father, if we strive daily to follow His Son and pursue holiness, we need not worry about the next stage of the journey. We must simply walk it attentively each day, with the certainty that God will always choose the most suitable path for us in every area of our lives—the one that benefits us most.

Even though we understand this in theory and believe it, our human nature often becomes restless, pushes us forward, and, in a way, tries to keep everything under control. If we attentively perceive this tendency in ourselves, it can serve as spiritual training, through which the heavenly Father teaches us to trust, and serenity begins to arise within us.

But this means consciously surrendering to God those tendencies toward restlessness and self-determination that we discover in ourselves. This happens when we deeply internalize today’s phrase, hold it in our hearts as the Virgin Mary did, and apply it in concrete situations: “I always guide you along the best path, the one that benefits you most.”

In this way, we educate ourselves under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Thus, our restlessness is restrained, and our tendency to determine everything for ourselves is countered by God’s wisdom. We understand that, by virtue of His infinite wisdom, our Father knows all circumstances, weighs them, and chooses the best path for us. What is essential is that we learn to recognize this guidance from God in our lives and thank Him for leading us along the path He has laid out, rather than the one we would have chosen. In this way, our confidence is strengthened as we assimilate our experiences—and even more so when we consider that our heavenly Father has known how to use even our mistakes to guide us along His paths.
